What makes a strong Kling prompt
Every model has a shape it likes. Sora likes long, novelistic descriptions. Runway likes short and camera-forward. Kling likes physics verbs. If you write a Kling prompt around what is moving and how it interacts with air, water, gravity, and light, the render will be noticeably more stable than the same idea written as a static description.
Concretely, prompts that name a specific physical event (a droplet catching light, cloth catching wind, steam curling into a draft) give Kling an anchor for its motion planner. Prompts that just describe a static scene (a bottle on a table, a mountain view) force Kling to invent motion, which is where drift happens and where the ten-second clip length starts to fight you. Kling prompt anatomy
Every prompt in this library follows the same five-part skeleton. Learn the skeleton once and every category below fits it.
Subject. One noun phrase, specific. "A ceramic mug of black coffee" beats "a coffee." Kling's identity coherence weakens when the subject is generic.
Action. One verb, present tense, ideally physical. "Rotates," "cascades," "billows," "shatters." Avoid "is," "sits," "stands" alone; those flatten motion.
Camera. One camera cue: shot distance, angle, and movement. "Close-up, static camera at eye level" or "slow dolly-in from three metres to one metre." Do not stack multiple shots per prompt; that is a common muddle we cover further down.
Physics cues. Two or three concrete details tied to how the scene behaves. "Individual droplets catch sunlight," "silk hem catches the wind," "vapour curls upward and dissolves." This is where Kling's edge lives.
Duration. End with 5 seconds or 10 seconds. Kling supports both. Choose 5 for tight product shots and reaction moments; choose 10 for slower cinematic pieces where the coherence matters more than the framing. Common Kling prompt mistakes
Five patterns that produce wobbly or muddled Kling renders even from good ideas.
1. Static prompts that force Kling to invent motion. A prompt like "a bottle on a marble table" gives Kling nothing to move. It will invent motion (a wobble, a slow rotation, a light shift) which is where drift starts. Always name one physical event. Even "condensation slowly runs down the bottle" is enough to stabilise the render.
2. Stacked camera moves. "Dolly-in, then orbit, then pull back to a wide" is three prompts pretending to be one. Kling will pick one and blur the transitions, or attempt all three and produce a jagged tween. Pick one camera cue per five or ten-second clip. 3. Describing what the subject looks like instead of what it does. Kling's identity coherence is not weak; it just does not need paragraph-length description. "A ceramic mug of black coffee with a chipped handle" is enough. Everything past that is words the motion planner has to reconcile instead of animate.
4. Overloading the prompt with adjectives. "Cinematic, moody, dramatic, atmospheric, professional, high-quality" adds nothing Kling was not already going to try. It burns prompt attention that would have been better spent on a physics cue. Cut every adjective that does not describe a physical property (colour, texture, size, weight, temperature).
5. Ignoring duration. The exact same prompt renders differently at 5s than at 10s. Five-second clips get a tighter motion arc; ten-second clips give Kling room for a slower build. Match duration to the shot type. Product beauty pass: 5s. Cinematic establishing shot: 10s. If you never specify, Kling defaults to 5s, and half your ten-second cinematic ideas will feel abbreviated.
Kling-specific quirks you should know
A short list of things Kling does differently from the western-first field (Sora, Runway, Luma).
The UX was Chinese-first. Kling's parent Kuaishou is a Chinese short-video platform, and Kling shipped on the Kuaishou app before klingai.com opened to international users. English translations on some menus can be terse; if a control label reads oddly, the same control is likely more clearly labelled in the Chinese version. Prompt filters are stricter on people and public figures. Kling declines prompts that name real people, that include children under a strict age threshold, and that specify politically sensitive scenes. This is a hard filter, not a soft warning; the render just fails silently or returns a generic scene. Prompt with placeholder names ([CHARACTER], [PERSON]) unless you are working with a real subject you have rights to.

Kling accepts image-to-video, not just text-to-video. If you have a still frame that already looks the way you want, feed it in and prompt only the motion. The identity coherence gets sharper. This is a strong pattern for product ads where the hero shot already exists.
